This report examines geographic and demographic trends in
methamphetamine-, cocaine-, and heroin/opioid-related admissions to
hospitals throughout Arizona for the period of 1990 to 2005. Its purpose
is to help communities and public health professionals target current
drug morbidity problems, anticipate new ones, and identify those in
decline. The report’s data were drawn from the more than 8 million
hospital admission records in the Arizona Hospital Discharge Data
System (AHDDS).
