Heroin Overview:
Chemistry

Heroin is an opioid, which is any drug, regardless of chemical structure, that produces effects similar to those of opium and morphine. [1]  Heroin has the scientific name diacetylmorphine.  Its chemical structure is similar to that of 6-acetyl morphine and morphine. [2]
